The cost for an Air Conditioning Install is dependant upon a number of factors; the size of the rooms, what they are used for, the number of rooms you require to have Air Conditioning and the type of system you choose. The manufacturer you choose will also have an impact on the quotation price.
The price differences in quotations can be due to several factors, including variations in the manufacturers or quality of materials used. Often quotations that are substantially cheaper aren't like-for-like, and key elements or services may be missing. It's important to carefully compare the details to ensure you're getting what you need. This can be something like aftercare service. If you have an issue who will be your point of contact, will it be the installer or will it be the manufacturer. All of these have a bearing on the price.
Air Conditioning, also known as Air to Air Heat Pumps can be a cost effective way of heating & Cooling your home. The amount of heat/cooling produced for every unit of electricity used is known as the Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCoP). For every 1Kw of Electricity used, this would provide between 4.0-4.46Kw of Heat or 6.2-7.0Kw of Cooling *
*as per panasonic data sheet
The answer is NO, this is not only illegal, it can be highly dangerous due to the gas/liquid within the units, should these leak they can cause freezer burns and in extreme cases could cause the loss of fingers. The gas/liquid within the unit is also highly flammable and units should not be touched by unqualified personnel. It is highly likely that trying to install a unit yourself could result in a leak and after a year your system is not working as it should be. This could then result in expensive repairs and re-gassing.
As indicated above the answer is NO, not only due to the legal aspect but also the gas/liquid indicated within the unit is flammable and removing could result in the liquid/gas being released into the air which not only causes damage to the Environment, if you are not aware of your surroundings could result in a fire. When Air Conditioning Units are removed the Gas needs to be 'recovered' into a special cylinder. Technicians are specially trained and have completed relevant courses, and continue to do so.
Once again the answer is NO. There are many components to an Air Conditioning System and they require specialised Tools and Training to ensure that these are handled carefully. It is our recommendation not to Install, Remove or Repair these units yourself. Be safe and get a fully qualified Air Conditioning Engineer to complete these works.
If used correctly Air Conditioning should reduce your Electricity Bills. It is also important to ensure that the system is sized correctly to ensure efficient cooling, optimal energy consumption, and to prevent excessive wear and tear on the unit.
(this is also dependant upon other factors, such as current fossil fuel prices)
Due to the cooler climate in the UK it is believed that people would not purchase Air Conditioning because of this. However, Air Conditioning is not just to keep you cool during the hot days, it can also be used to keep you warm during the cooler days, especially as each room can be cooled/heated independently.
Generally, planning permission is not required for most residential air conditioning installations. However, if your property is listed or in a conservation area, it’s advisable to check with your local planning authority.
