FAQ ELECTRICAL SERVICES INCLUDING ARE ELECTRIC RADIATORS EXPENSIVE TO RUN?

Electric radiators can be cost-effective depending on your energy tariff, insulation, and usage.  While they may have higher running costs than gas systems, they offer precise temperature control, require minimal maintenance, and are 100% efficient at converting electricity to heat. Using a smart thermostat or timer can further reduce energy consumption.

The easiest answer for this would be to contact the Electrician who completed the work or their regulatory body.

We provide free estimates to our clients, however, under certain circumstances we may charge for a quotation.  To ensure we can assist you efficiently from the start, we aim to gather all necessary information about your requirements upfront. Preparing detailed quotations takes time, so we kindly ask clients to provide as much information as possible initially. While we don't charge for quotations, repeated requests for multiple quotes on the same work may incur a fee.

At LECTEC LTD, we provide a single, combined quotation for all requested work, rather than itemised pricing.  This is because an itemised quote can be misleading and may not reflect the actual cost if tasks are later carried out individually.

When work is completed as one job, it is generally more cost-effective.  However, if you choose to split the tasks across multiple visits, most electricians will apply a minimum charge per visit, which can increase the overall cost.

For this reason, we recommend either prioritising the most important tasks or proceeding with all the required work at once. This ensures you get the best value and avoids unnecessary additional charges.

We do not charge our clients for a Call out, we do however have a minimum charge.

An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is a comprehensive evaluation of your Electrical System.  It identifies any potential hazards and any safety issues that need addressing.  Any issues that are identified may require remedial work to rectify

Typically an EICR is valid for 5 years for rental properties (or the change of tenant) and the same for commercial buildings.  However, for homeowners, it’s recommended to have an EICR inspection every 10 years.  Factors like property age, condition, and previous electrical work may affect how often an inspection is needed.

Ask your Electrician which CPS (Competent Person Scheme) they are registered with and check this online with the relevant Scheme.  At LECTEC we are a member of Napit.  A company that is registered with a CPS will give the client peace of mind knowing that the company has the necessary qualifications and insurance required.

An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is legally required and gives confirmation to your tenant that the Electrical Installation in the property is safe to use.  The Safety Test (EICR) should be completed at 5 year intervals or change of tenancy.

As it currently stands an EICR is recommended every 10 years for a Domestic Property.  However, if you are a Property owner who rents out the property, an EICR should be performed every 5 years or at each change of a tenant.   If you are unsure and would like us to perform an EICR for you please do not hesitate to contact us.
